signing ceremony Recently, POWERCHINA Guyana Branch and Guyana State Power Lighting Company officially signed the first and third bid sections of the 2024 Guyana Power Infrastructure Development Plan project (Phase II). Mark Phillips, Guyana Prime Minister, attended and witnessed the signing ceremony; Cao Xinsheng, vice president of JEPCC attended the signing ceremony. The project is located in Demerara District 4 and Berbice District 6, Guyana, and JEPCC is responsible for the overall implementation of the project. The main construction components include the new construction, expansion, and upgrading of substations, the installation of reactive power compensation devices, and the establishment of new transmission lines. After the completion and put-into-operation, this project is expected to significantly enhance the regional power transmission capacity, improve the stability and reliability of the power grid, and effectively meet the growing demand for electricity in the local economic and social development. This project is the first large-scale power transmission and transformation infrastructure project in the Caribbean region, the second power project contracted by POWERCHINA in Guyana, and also the second large-scale power transmission and transformation project contracted by JEPCC in the Americas region since the Mexico I20 project Phase II (Bid Section I), marking another historic breakthrough in the American regional market.
